Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

How can I access a "in trust for" account

My parents are divorced and my father was court ordered to open an "itf" account for me. I have recently turned 18 and attempted to access this account so to consolidate my funds for college. However, my father refuses to allow me to access the funds and believes that he has final say on how the money is to be used. According to the court order, the money is to be used at my discretion not his. What can I do to access this money?

Re: How can I access a

You will need to make an application to the Court to get an Order requiring your father to comply. It should be made to the same Court that ordered the account to be set up and a motion should be filed using the same docket number as the original action. You may want to contact an attorney to assist you, as it can get complicated. If you want me to assist you, feel free to call me at 856-546-8010; mention LawGuru and your first consultation is free.
