adopting a chid already in ones custody ...

... interested in adopting child already in my custody and biological parents are consenting. how best may we accomplish execute the adoption? would it be possible to do so without involving lawyers and/or home study? how can i obtain the required forms (for the nj area)? thank you!

Step parent adoptions are typically quite simple and don't involve home studies. However, that is not what you are considering. A lot of complexities may or may not arise in scenarios like yours, and a home study is a must. To proceed without an attorney is dangerous. For example, you say that you are already have physical custody. There are time limitations concerning when a prospective adoptive parent must apply for adoption following taking custody.
