Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Adopting a child that I have legal guardian over

How would I go about adopting a child that I have legal guardian, who is no longer in the DYFS System, never was in Foster Care? I am having a problem obtaining a lawyer that is willing to take the case.

Re: Adoption of a child

You will need to make an application for the adoption by filing a Complaint in your county and then the usual process will take place. There are other documents that will need to be filed and a home investigation will be completed. Thereafter, assuming the Court approves, a Judgment will be entered granting your request and a new birth certificate will be entered. Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There certainly may be other factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. Since it appears that you have not retained an attorney, before you take any further action, you should contact an attorney (either me or someone else) to discuss your matter in more detail. Only then will you be able to rely on the advice. I will be happy to assist you. However, you need to call me at 856-546-8010. Good luck! Rob
