Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Adoption for a disabled adult

My Father just found out he is terminally ill, and wants to have my sister adopted by his live in partner. I do not agree with this situation and want to fight for custody myself. She is my sister and I can provide a better life for her, then this woman. How long does an adoption take for someone who is not married, nor family? Is it a long drawn out process? I do not want to try to get custody of my sister until my Father passes, since he doesn't believe that his partner is evil.

Re: Adoption for a disabled adult

this is a complex situation, and I really think you should NOT wait until your father dies to take action.

You should consult with an attorney who is not too far from you, who handles this kind of adoption and divorce law (that is the general area of law involved).

If you would like me to assist, just let me know; however, it seems that your town (Clark) is a good 30 miles from me. Just let me know, I would be happy to meet with you.
