Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

adoption

I'm am in the process of adopting my son well step son. I have been in the childs life since birth so he is my son. the day before the court day the biological father (who has seen my so about a # of 5 times when my son was one) decided to contest and ask for a dna test. I was under the impression that the court gave 20 days it to be contested. now I have a court day to reveal the dna test. will this be a preliminary & final hearing or will I have to spend more time in court? how does this process work? what does the court look for in makeing a decision. will I have to prep my son to spend time with someone he doesn't know will the court even take that into consideration. My son is 6 knows no other father. how can this turn out?

Re: adoption

Parental rights can be terminated in a contested adoption where the Court finds that there has been persistent and long term failure to live up to parental responsibilities and the child has bonded with the step parent. You seem to have this situation.

Re: adoption

I agree with Gary, the other attorney. And you would be much better off with a lawyer, I think.

Call Gary or call me, if you like. But I am older and better looking!

Re: adoption

I second (or third) the other attorney's comments. However, I don't think you could go wrong with a good attorney on your side. I don't think it should be that expensive either. An attorney will fight for you and make sure the law is followed and that it applied to the facts of the case to get the result you want and that it sounds like you are entitled to.

My consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 and we will discuss your case.

Good luck!
