Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Adoption
I am 16 years old, and would like my fathers rights reliquished so that my Step-dad can adopt me. My father feels his presence in my life is unimportant and child support is his only duty. He repeatedly says that if i wanted a relationship with him, i would try. however, our history makes it hard for me to even TRY to have a relationship with him. HE constantly treats me differently then his children in his present marrige including the girl he adopted. My question is, ''how can he father a girl who has no blood relation with him, and then want nothing to do with his first born daughter?'' My stepfather, however, has raised me since i was 3 and has been the father that i have always longed for. I want to make this legal. Can this be possible?

Re: Adoption
Well yes, its possible and your step-father would have to file the paperwork with the court. However, I don't think you should do it for numerous reasons, with the most important being support issues. I suggest you, your mother and your step father sit down with a lawyer to make sure this is what you really want.
