Sometimes a judge will speak to a teenager in a custody dispute if a party to the action (meaning one of the parents, or their attorney) asks the judge to have a meeting with the teen in the judge's chambers. Sometimes a judge will order the parties and the teenager to meet with a family therapist (separately and together), and the judge will consider the therapist's remarks about what the teen said and how the custody situation is affecting the teen. It really depends on the circumstances of the case.
