Alimony when not married

Could I be required to pay alimony to someone I have lived with for 10 years but never got married to. We do have a daughter together.

The answer is "maybe" depending on other facts. You would certainly have an obligation to pay child support.

What you are asking about is something called palimony. Palimony is an obligation to pay support based on the idea of contract; that one person gave up opportunities for advancement and improvement in reliance upon the other persons promise to provide support indefinitely. For palimony to apply the other party has to have substantial income and/or financial assets because no one would reasonably rely upon a promise of support made by a homeless person, for example.
