Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Alimony Questions

I will be married 10 years on 9-15-2000. My husband and I separated March 1st--and our relationship has been downhill ever since. I have no education, and no job because I have been a stay-at-home mother of our 2, soon to be 3 children for our entire marriage.

My husband makes 100k (maybe more) a year, but most of that is eaten up by debt - we live paycheck to paycheck.

He tells me that he will only have to pay me a few years of rehabilitative alimony and then he will be free of me. A lawyer I interviewed shrugged and said I'll be lucky if I get 5 years.

Is this information accurate?

Re: Alimony Questions

One of the factors of alimony consideration is length of marriage. You are in that area that is considered in the middle, that is, not a long marriage, but not a short one. Since this is only one of the factors, you should immediately consult with another attorney to review all of the factors in your marriage which would impact on your alimony rights and the other rights and obligations arising out of your marriage. If you want me to assist you, call me at 856-546-8010; mention LawGuru and your first consultation is free. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
