Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Appellate court filing costs

How is the total cost of filing an appeal to the appellate court, determined? Where can I find the process that a lawyer follows? When a lawyer files pro bono, what does the lawyer pay and what does the client pay?

Re: Appellate court filing costs

There is a good packet of forms and instructions online at the NJ Judiciary website--njcourtsonline with a dot com after it. These issues depend on the circumstances and the finances. I am not familiar with the pro bono issues but fees are posted on the website referenced. Maybe there are legal services attorneys that do this. Try calling the local bar association. There are many online forms that make representing yourself at least possible. There are even standards for appellate review, timetables for filing deadlines and so forth on the website if you can navigate it. Some forms can be printed after filled out online. You may at least want to pay an attorney to review the issues and show you the online forms for a fee and then take opver from there. There are time limits on filing to perfect the appeal so do not delay. Not all attorneys will review Pro Se work even for a fee.

njcourtsonline is your place

If you are filing for an appeal, I strongly suggest you get an attorney. At least try to get an attorney to review your work. I don't review pro se documents, but some lawyers do.
