Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

I am in arrears and the amount has reached 18K, I have had the child support obligation terminated, but his father's atty states that the monthly benefit he gets will not be reduced from the arrears I owe. I think that's absurd especially considering once the calculations were done, I would owe a negative obligation of 118 a month and my son is receiving 54 a month on my behalf.
