Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Do I need an attorney for this? I am 22 years old and have not lived with my biological parents since I was 16. I have had several email conversations with my mother years apart and no verbal communication whatsoever except for two weeks when I was 18. I speak to my father on a limited basis every few months or longer. I reported them to DYFS recently because my younger sister contacted me asking me for the child abuse hotline and I live out of state and have no way of investigating anything so I turned it over to someone else. As a result of me calling, my parents got an extended protective order against me and Im not sure on what grounds since they can't say it was for calling CPS and I haven't even spoken to them or threatened them or even lived there or in state for years. The domestic violence court says I need to appear for a hearing in New Jersey. What should I do? Do I get an attorney? Can I get one while out of state? Will this affect my record? How serious is this?

This is pretty serious. I suggest you talk to a lawyer, and you should have a lawyer to represent you in court. it sounds like, among other things, you are at risk for the court telling you that you can not talk to your sister any more!

I can help you with this. Give me a call, make an appointment to come see me, and let's get moving on this for you. No charge for the telephone call and no charge for the first office visit.

You can not rely upon what I have written as legal advice, because I do not have all of the information that I need to advise you, I only have the very small amount of information that you put into your question.
