Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

bank account

John and Mary are husband and wife who have a joint bank account. One day, Mary secretly transferred almost all the money from the joint account to a new account Mary opened for herself. John did not know until he finds only a few dollars left in the joint account. After obtaining the huge amount of money, Mary is asking for divorce (or just living seprartely). What can John do? Is what Mary did legal?

Re: bank account

Based on the information you have given me, it appears legal. That does not mean, however, that the Husband would not have a claim against the money in a subsequent divorce proceeding. If you want me to assist you, feel free to call my office at 609-546-8010. Good luck!
