Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
If my name is on the birth certificate, but I am not the biological father, can I still be held responsible fo child support?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Without knowing more about your situation or reviewing any paperwork associated with your case, it is likely a man would be held responsible for child support if (1) he's married to the mother of the child at the time of the child's birth and/or (2) he significantly contributes to the child's support and stands in the role of dad without a paternity test or court order and/or (3) he's listed on the child's birth certificate and doesn't challenge it.
