Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Can boyfriend pick up my kids for visitation?
I have sole custody of my 2 children (ages 7 and 10) as my wife pays me child support. She walked out on me and the children for another man. She has visitation rights with them on Saturdays and Wednesday nights. I assumed when the court granted her this visitation it was with the assumption that SHE would be picking them up from me and dropping them off to me when over. Until now she has done that. Her boyfriend was not included or involved in any court ruling. Suddenly, she tells my kids that ''Joe'' will be picking them up ALONE this Saturday. Neither I, nor my kids, are comfortable with this man and with this arrangement. I don't know him from Adam. I don't trust him with my kids and feel that it is not his responsibility to be driving them here and there. Do I HAVE to allow him to take my kids? Legally, he is nothing to this family and in this equation. What if something were to happen to my children while in his company? I feel that my wife should have ASKED me if this was permissible rather than TELL my kids that this would happen. Doesn't my having SOLE CUSTODY entitle me to prohibit this request? I feel SHE has every right to take them on Saturday and Wednesday BUT NOT HIM! Your feelings on this?

Her boyfriend is like any other stranger; you are not required to trust him. She or someone you trust should pick up the children.
