Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Break of engagement & Emotional Battery

I know this sounds stupid, but i'm just trying to find out if it's even possible.

I had been going out with the same girl for over a year (i'm 17 now, 18 next month). We did get engaged, she had a ring, etc.

Ok so the main question really is that now that we've broken up, she says she's going to sue me for ''breaking an engagement'' and ''emotional battery.'' (she's very spiteful, there was nothing i did that was outside of normal break-up behavior) Now you know just as well as I do that when it comes to emotional battery, we're teens, we're kids, we get nasty and vicious, that's not really my concern because if it did happen it would probablly get thrown out. But i've never heard of ''breaking an engagement.'' Is is something that theoretically i could be sued for? If so, what would it entail?

Thanks

Re: Break of engagement & Emotional Battery

There is no cause of action that I know of for "breaking an engagement". I wouldn't worry about it. Make sure you get the ring back.
