Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Case for divorce

My wife left last March. She took everything, including last years tax return from the bank without my knowledge. She took all my jewelry, furniture, everything. She had 2 residences. Our apartment in NJ and her parents home in SINY. Her bills went to NY.She has bank accts with her mom. We had one checking acct together. We had one credit card together. She is trying to get me to pay for half her credit card debt which is 14,000.00. I never saw the credit card or a bill. I want to know if I am responsible by law for it ,as my name isn't on any of her cards.

Thank you

Re: Case for divorce

How can you owe for half her bills when she seems to have taken most of

the joint assets?

Call me if you like.

Re: Case for divorce

Let me summarize:

you are in the middle of a divorce.

You may have a job. You may have a house. you may have savings, pension, credit card bills, and other things to deal with. Your spouse may have a job.

you may have a child (children), and child support and college tuition needs to be paid. That is measured in tens of thousand of dollars.

Nothing that an attorney can say over this bulletin board can come close to helping you solve your problems. Careless actions by you will likely cost you thousands of dollars, make your life more difficult, and possibly cause additional harm to the child.

Hire an attorney. Go see an experienced divorce attorney located reasonably near you, and pay the attorney to review your situation carefully with you, and give you some guidance.

If you would like, give me a call; I am in northern New Jersey. I will be happy to discuss this with you; the telephone consultation will be free.

My contact information can be obtained from the links below, just click on the Attorney Profile link. Let my secretary know you found me through LawGuru.

Re: Case for divorce

You should back up a little. First, it sounds like you should seriously think about actually filing for divorce since you did not indicate that you have done so.

Second, you have a lot of issues and a lot at stake here. You should meet with an attorney ASAP.

With regard to the cards, I would need to see what she bought and when before I give you any answers. Of course, you don't seem to know what she bought. You will need to go through the discovery process to get everything.

Bottom line, I would pick up the phone and call an attorney right away and I wouldn't do anything before that.

My initial consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss your case.
