Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

change child's last name

I am getting married in a month and would like to know how to legally change my son's name. His father has not had contact with us for 4 years. Do I have to contact him for a name change if I do not legally have sole custody?

you apply to court to do this. not too hard, not really, i have done this before.

you can try on your own, but a lot easier to get an attorney. up to you.
