Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Change Custody, Review Child Support, Reimbursement of Med Bills
I need to have custody of my son changed from his dad to me, to recoup my ex's share of unreimbursed medical bills (he's owed me this for 3 1/2 years) and I'd like child support reviewed. Are all these issues able to be dealt with at the same time in family court? I understand one would come under the heading of litigant enforcement. I can't afford a lawyer and would need to file myself, I don't want to be appearing in different courts for different issues. also, we live in separate counties, neither of which are the county this case was originally tried in. Which county should these issued be filed in, his, mine or where the case was originally heard?

The specific answer to your question is that you can do this yourself. However, it will be very difficult for you to do so. There is a "Family Intake Unit" at the Superior Court and your first step may be to go in and talk with one of the Intake Officers at the Superior Court in your home county. I think you will probably find out that it is much too time consuming and complicated for you to do on your own. However, if you have the time and perseverence, you might be able to succeed. Your chances increase greatly by hiring (and paying) an experienced family law attorney. If you want to speak with me about this , feel free to call me at 856-546-8010. Good luck!
