Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

name change

My husband and myself have had custody of our grandson since birth. He is now 10. He would like to change his last name to ours(he has his fathers)or even hyphenate it.We have legal custody. He asks me alot. He started just using our name but school won't let him.Can we do anything? Thank you

The other attorney did not give you an answer.

You can ask the Judge to change the baby's name with consent of both parents, or if one parent is not around and you can not get in touch with that parent, then you can ask the Judge to change the baby's name anyway. The judge will change the baby's name if that is what the Judge decides is best for the child.

I have done this procedure before. It is not all that complicated, not at all. Go see an attorney who is not too far away from you, who does divorce type law (this is a divorce-type issue, beleive it or not).
