Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

child born to unmarried parents

My fiance and I split before we married but I will be having a child by him in a few weeks. Can I use my last name for the child or must I give the child the father's last name.

Re: child born to unmarried parents

You can name the child as you wish.

However, there is a MUCH more important issue: you will need support from this man to help raise this child, for at least 18 years. YOU NEED A LAWYER TO HELP YOU! Please hire (and pay) a divorce attorney to do this for you, it will be worth the cost. You need child support, in a fair amount, and a lawyer is a crucial aid to you.

Good luck to you. I am sorry for your troubles.
