child custody in new jersey
i recently just found out that a girl i use to date had my son, he is in the state custody, what can i do to get him back to me in california she has an history of child neglect what can i do

No easy answer here. The older the child is, the less of a father you are to the child compared to anyone else. Since the child has not been placed with a step father or other relative, you are probably better than anyone else the child is with now.
You may want to get an attorney to help you here. Since the child is in NJ, you'll have to deal with NJ DYFS and NJ courts.

To put it simply, you can apply for custody, with the assistance of an attorney who will email the custody complaint for your signature. At some
point you will have to appear in court in New Jersey.
