Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
child custody
I have a 9 m old daughter. Me and her father aren't married. We currently reside in NJ, but we are broken up and I want to move back to MA. He says that he will get full custody of my daughter. He claims that he knows the judges in NJ and will make it happen. What should I do?

Re: child custody
Get an attorney and file a motion.

Re: child custody
He must be dreaming. The father almost never gets the child, largely because he is not qualified for the job. He is just trying to scare you because he is afraid of what will happen if you do what you plan. If he REALLY scares you, with his conduct, call the police and file a domestic violence complaint.

You should hire a divorce lawyer (this is a divorce type problem), file for custody and child support and also ask for the Court to decide that you may move back to Massachusetts.
Many people in your situation say they can not afford an attorney. I say:
Scrape the money together, and get it done. Your child will need stability in her life, and her father is obligated to pay his share of the cost of raising her. This is important.
Call me if you like; I do not charge for the first phone call.
Good luck to you.
