A no fault divorce has no impact on custody, it is just a ground for divorce.

No one waits 18 months. Usually the ground for divorce which is used is "extreme cruelty." Extreme cruelty in New Jersey has been interpreted by the courts so that it is really irreconcilable differences. Being excessively argumentative or cold and indifferent equals extreme cruelty.

As the other attorney's stated, I don't suggest going at it alone. There is a myth that divorces with an attorney cost over $10,000 even if its not really contested. That's not the case at all if you get a good attorney. Furthermore, my consultations are free, so there is no reason not to see an attorney just to discuss the issues.
