Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Child Support

I want to know at what age child support stops and if a child goes to college if he can have his check sent directly to him.

Nothing is said in final divorce agreement as far as when it would stop.

Re: Child Support

Child support generally stops upon the emancipation of the child, which can be age 18, marriage, full time employment, college graduation or any number of other times. The exact date that it stops depends on the facts in each case. Even if there is no emancipation, you may have a right to obtain a decrease in child support payments (assuming you are the payor) depending on whether or not a substantial change of circumstance can be shown. There are many factors here, however and a proper answer cannot be given unless all of the particular facts are explored. You may want to immediately consult with an attorney on your own to find out what your rights are. If you want me to assist you, feel free to call me at 856-546-8010. Good luck!
