Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Child Support Calculations

Have two children with mother, 3 months ago, the mother took one of the children and disappeared. Last month received court papers to appear for child support and medical insurance. court date was this week. the mother is on ''temporary'' assistance, which i did not know about, since I did not know the wearabouts. Anyway, if we have two children, I have one and she has the other, we were never married, should I have to pay 1/2 of the support for the one child or all? Just asking, as this week, the calculation came out to 0% owed, and then after the welfare representative and moderator RECALCULATED, I am now responsible for paying more within a month for the child that does not reside with me, than the child that I have now. The child with the mother, I still do not know the wearabouts, and/or if the child is attending school or therapy for his diagnoised disorders. Any help would be appreciated. It felt like the entire system was against me, and I am the one that has been supporting both children and have custody of both all along.

Re: Child Support Calculations

You are feeling the consequences of a governmental agency being involved. Some statute entitles the governmental agency to compensation from the other, nonsupporting parent. The legislators did not have your situtation in mind when the law was passed. This situation is novel to me but there should be some easy solution

You can call me to discuss the problem.
