Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

child support and college expenses

If you were never married to the child's mother and never went to court, just agreed for the last 17 years on child support, child needs and health insurance, is support ''over'' at age 18? What if child goes to college?

if you are in this situation, and you are getting demands for college expenses, you MUST protect yourself and get some expert advice from an experienced divorce attorney.

I practice in your area. You have a few issues here, you owe nothing since there is no court order, but she can take you to court any order you to pay something right away, so there may not be much a point in that. Since you have paid all along, you really don't have much of a laches argument.

You owe child support until the court tells you to stop paying. Again, a court never told you to pay in the first place. You may want to actually sit down with an attorney to go over all of your options.
