Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

child support

Husband wants to reduce child support payments. Daughter is entering college. Divorce decree states both parents are to share in college expense. Daughter is going to community college and is paying for her own schooling with a student loan. Husband has moved out of state and thinks that daughter should be able to take care of herself more. I am the stepfather caring for her along with her mother. If we tell him that we do not want the child support to decrease what are our obligations and what can he do?

Re: child support

He can file a motion with the court. It doesn't sound like she will be living on campus of course, so I don't think you will really have a problem here. You may not need an attorney here, but you should at least consult with one before you do anything.

My initial consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss your case.

Re: child support

He still owes contribution to her college expenses; the child support should continue in lieu of his paying them.

There is a fair amount of money involved here. Go talk to a divorce lawyer.
