Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

"Child support"

In my NJ divorce degree it states that child support is to be paid until the child is full immancipated. My youngest, now 20 had attended one full semester of college, financially using financial aid. I had a problem the 2nd yr because she had tried to change schools but couldn't get in and the previous school had already deleted her due to none payment of semester. So she decided to continue to work PT for the fall semester and try to get back in for spring. Since August of 97, since she did not attend school, her father has not sent support. Now that she has finally enrolled back into school for Jan 98 and financial aid will not kick in til feb. I want to know if he is still liable for those months of child support and can I go after him for some assistance with her education?

Child support for child in college

I don't know about your state, but it seems to me that NJ MAY be one of the states that requires child support through college. Call the NJ Bar Association (maybe located in the state capital) and see if they publish a brochure about child support. That may give you the answer. Otherwise, go to a law library (there may be one in your local courthouse or in the public library or both) and look up child support - college. I am guessing that he may be off the hook for child support an time that the child is not in college. Don't know about part time college. If these references don't help you, you're going to have to call a real lawyer.
