Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Child Support - NJ
I have a woman attempting to contact me after 17 years with the statement that I may be the father of her 17 year old child. I was unaware of both the pregnancy and the child. I want to pursue identifying parentage and possibly getting to know the child, but I am concerned about the mother's possible motivation for financial gain. What is my exposure in this matter?

Before you do ANYTHING, I suggest you contact an attorney. This case can go wrong for you in a hurry. I've had clients in this situation before and they did not have to pay any child support. However, not everyone is that lucky.
My initial consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss your case.

You need a lawyer, immediately.
And do not talk, write or email her, her lawyer at all. Do not discuss this with anyone else (you may make an admission that your friend may have to reveal if subpoenaed).
You have some exposure.
