Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

child support

can i get relife from child support, i raised my son for 16 years and he lived with me all that time. now he is with his father in maine and my son wishes to stay there, i dont mind that but his father still owes me child support and is now coming after me for it , why should i have to pay him if he still owes me, is there any law that will kind of emancipate me or relife me of child support from this. if i give up all my rights to his father will i still be responsible to pay him child support? thank you

Re: child support

You should be able to convert the father's arrears to a judgment and then get a credit against any child support oligation until the judgment is satisfied.
