Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
child support
I have been seperated for 10 years, there is no court order for child support however my husband has paid child support for 10 years. Recently he let it go 10 weeks, I wrote a letter he paid what he owed. Now it has been 11 weeks. Will he have to pay what is in arrears? The only reason I stay married is because I am then covered under his health insurance. I am a teacher in a private school, they do not offer benefits. They would cost over $300.00 per month on my own.

Re: child support
Usually I am on the other side and I have never had a client have to pay anything when a child support order was not in effect. However, you don't even know if you are getting the right amount. I suggest you get a lawyer and file a motion for child support right away. This will preserve your time period so that when an award is determined, it is retroactive to the time of filing.

Have you sat down with a divorce attorney and gotten some advice? this is far too long to leave things unsettled.
