Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Child Support

Here is a simple question. My child's father is currently paying support through income witholding. He has had no interest in seeing her and there is no visitation schedule. Does he have to have a phone number to contact me in reference to our child. He has had a history of harassing me over the phone so the number has been changed. He also has my home address and e-mail address. Is that sufficient?

Re: Child Support

Hi,

It would probably depend on what the Court order says regarding visitation and notification. People commonly confuse support payments and custody issues. If you want to limit his contact, then you need to file a motion with the Court, and list the reasons. Nonpayment of support is usually not a reason to limit visitation. You should consult with the services of an attorney who can get additional information, and help advise you on the proper course of action. Please feel free to call my office at 856-489-8888.
