You seem to be asking two different questions here - one concerning how child support is calculated and the other concerning accommodating each other's schedules to allow for work/school. I will give both a try.

Child support is based on several factors, but primarily the income of each of the parties. His income and your income would be put into the Child Support Guideline Software with some other information (including, but not limited to, the number of overnights that each of you has the child, the cost of work/school related daycare and the cost of health insurance applicable to the child), and a child support number is calculated. There are a few nuances in the Child Support Guideline Worksheet. But that is the basic information required.

As to accommodation of schedules, the parties should cooperate to attempt to come to an amicable schedule to allow the maximum amount of time for the child to be with each parent, taking into consideration work and schooling schedules and attempting to limit the cost of day care. If you cannot come to an agreement, a Judge would decide on proper application being made by one of you.

Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There certainly may be other factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. You will only be able to rely on advice from an attorney who you have actually retained. Seek legal advice as soon as possible. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
