Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

childs medical bills

I've been divorced for 9 years. My daugher is 20 and in school. I provide medical benefits and split bills 50/50 after medical pays. My daughter nor her mother did not fill out the forms requested bymy union to prove she is a full time student. I have tried for 4 months now to get the form filled out. Am I responsible for 50% of all medical bills even if my daughter refused to bring the form to the college for them to validate? My divorce says, I provide medical, child support and we split 50/50 after medical pays until my daughter is 23 or NOT in school full time.

Re: childs medical bills

You have to live by your divorce agreement. However, they can't withhold them from you and then stick you with a big stack of them at a later date. Problem is, is this worth getting an attorney for? Unless these are very expensive medical bills, probably not.

I see your options as follows:

1. Get an attorney to take care of this

2. Go to court by yourself and force her to give you the medical bills.

3. Do nothing and wait to see what happens. On one hand, you may wind up not having to pay them but on the other, you could get stuck paying a big stack of them at once. This is a real gamble and I don't recommend it.
