Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Client's rights to review filings

Am I entitled to review all materials filed on my behalf with the court, including my atty's legal brief? I asked my atty to let me review all material before he filed it on my behalf. He refused to send me his legal brief and was so offended when I insisted that he said he would no longer represent me after my current matter. Don't I have a right to review anything my atty produces before he files it with the court, especially since I'm paying for it? I told him I wasn't going to challenge his legal arguments. I just wanted to check the accuracy of the facts in my case but he still refused. Now he wants to dump me and I have to pay extra to get another atty up to speed.

Re: Client's rights to review filings

please try not to be so hard on your lawyer.

no, i do NOT let my clients review everything before i file it. that would not make sense. i do review all decisions with them beforehand, where the client must decide on an issue.

my clients get a copy of everything important which i file.

i HATE being the second attorney on a file. it clearly shows that something big went wrong with the attorney-client relationship.
