Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

custody of grandson

At the end of June 2008 I received custody of my grandson. At the time I was not getting any financial support, nor did I get any forster care training. DYFS stated that was because my daughter was living with me. She is on SSI and is no able to give monetary but does use her food stamps to help with food for him. My grandson's father is in jail, so obviously he can not help financially. I have since moved, February 2009, and my daughter no longer lives with me. There is a complying court hiring on the 25th of February, and I am almost positive nothing will be ordered to help with the financial needs of my grandson. What if anything can I do for his as well as my rights?

Re: custody of grandson

I suggest you speak with an attorney to discuss all of this. Sounds like a rather involved situation and thus, not a good case to be resolved over this website.

As Jef said, this is a complicated situation that requires an in-depth consultation. Even if your daughter only receives SSI, the court can still order a small amount of support. Additionally, you should reapply to DYFS, and check with Social Security to see if there are dependancy benefits available through your daughter.
