Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

custody question

i am divorced and in my divorce papers it states that i have custody of my child and that my ex has liberal visitation rights.

what is the difference between custody and sole custody, if any ?

my child lives with me and only see's my ex on sundays for a few hours and sometimes not even every sunday..

my husband and i cover her with our medical benefits, claim her on our taxes ect..

my ex pays child support weekly or sometimes every few weeks but that is it

Re: custody question

There is sole andl joint custody. Joint custody gives both parents the right to make parental decisions about medical care snd education and see the records which relate to each. The law has a preference for joint custody. Joint custody usually names the parent who has primary residential custody, but sometimes the time sharing is equal and there is no primary.

Unless there is an order determining how the child tax exemption is to be alotted between the two parents, the parent who has sole or primary custody gets the child exemption. A separation and property settlement agreement providing for such an alotment has the same force and effect as a court order providing for same.
