Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Dating & Custody

I am dating someone who is beginning a custody battle for his child. I have never met the child and the father and I agreed that I would only be introduced to the child after we established a serious relationship and after meeting the mother. His lawyer has advised him to stop seeing me (as well as any female friends he has) because it could be used against him in court. Is this true? I am an upstanding citizen, no criminal record, and I have no contact with his child at all. How can I possibly hurt his case?

Re: Dating & Custody

There is no reason for your friend to stop seeing you. He should avoid introducing you to his child or including you to go along when he and his child are together.

Re: Dating & Custody

That sounds a little wacky, but there might be something about this case that I don't know about.

Or it might mean that he is looking at a difficult and emotionally draining couple of months and doesn't want to subject you the highs and lows of a court trial.

good luck.
