You have asked a very difficult and complicated question. The only way to properly advise you is to obtain more information about your financial status, your incomes, assets, debts, etc. This can only be accomplished through a complete consultation. I strongly urge you to consult with an attorney formally and in person immediately. Your question did not specify whether you and your spouse are still living together.

If you know the divorce is imminent, you must get your financial records together in one place. For instance, W-2s, 1199s, Federal and State tax returns, bills, credit card and banking statements, deeds, leases, insurance documentation, pay stubs, etc. If you have all of these things going back five years, all the better. It is better than likely that you will be required to produce up to five years worth of these documents. Having them ready to go when the time comes is one terrific way to cut down on legal fees.

When your wife eventually files and eventually serves you, you will have 35 days to file responsive papers. You should have an attorney, but having documentation to bring along with you to your attorney is quite helpful.

On another note, try to avoid renewing or starting any leases or term arrangements that you could otherwise avoid.
