Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
My divorce was finalized this past Tuesday, I was told to ask for my personal belongings during the final court hearing. At that hearing the judge told me that I should have filed for my stuff prior to the final hearing. I did not have the $135 to apeal the divorce paperwork when he initially filed. He insists that there is nothing in the house that is mine which I know is not true. At the final hearing the judge told my ex that he should just let me in the house and get whatever was mine. If he didn't then I could file a Notice to Motion to try to get my property back. I have receipts, bills and paperwork showing that I bought and paid for the items I want. There are items in the house that were gifts to me that he won't return, how do I show proof of ownership for these items? Also, I had a garage in the backyard filled with my stuff, instead of letting me know that he wanted to clean the garage out and for me to get my stuff, he took everything in theere that was mine and threw it away. I don't know how to fill out the paperwork for the Motion and need help. I would like to speak to someone who may have been in a similar situation. Can someone please tell me how to prove the items are mine?
