Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Need a divorce but...
I have a friend who has been seperated for over 6 years. She was married in Lawton, Oklahoma. She has lost contact with her husband. Has made several attempts to contact directly and through family members even went as far as filing out necessary paper work and sent to husband with no responce. She cannot afford PI. She owes money for taxes every year, for his income, and cannot receive financial aid for college. Please advise of what actions or options available.

Based on the few facts you've given, your friend should probably be able to obtain a default judgment of divorce, that is, a divorce even without her husband appearing in court or signing papers. However, she would need to come in for a formal consultation in order for us to determine exactly what the best course of action is. Please have your friend call our offices at 201-963-6445 to schedule an appointment. SANTORELLA & WHEATLEY., P.C., Parc Plaza, 590 Newark Ave., Jersey City, NJ 07306.

Your question is not quite clear to me. Are you saying she is being taxed because of his income? If that is the case, it means that she probably knows where he works and could find him that way. However, why she would be taxed on his income is a mystery to me anyway. It's also not clear why she can't get college aid. There are many gaps of information to fill in before an answer can be given. Since your friend has not retained an attorney in this case, before she takes any action, she should contact an attorney (either me or someone else) to discuss her matter in much more detail. Only then will she be able to rely on the advice. I will be happy to assist her. However, she needs to call me at 856-546-8010. If she mentions LawGuru, there will be no charge for her first consultation. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
