Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Divorced for 10 yrs, just found out15yr old child not biolg. mine
I recently found out by way of paternity test that the person I thought was my child, is not. Our relationship is poor at best and has been for a few yrs. I do not want to terminate the relationship, but also feel a great injustice has been served on me. My ex or the child do not know.My ex has sole cutody. I have been paying support from day 1, without missing.
Do I have any rights in this case? And what about the childs biological father who is unknown to me at this time. Is he at all financially obligated?...

Re: Divorced for 10 yrs, just found out15yr old child not biolg. mine
It's obvious that you are conflicted with this new found information. On the one hand, I can see that you consider the child to be your own. On the other hand, this discovered deception must be devastating to you. It is possible that the Court would look on you, in any case, as the "father" with the continuing obligation to care for this child. And, if you have any hope of keeping any kind of relationship with the child, to take any adverse position at this time would only harm that possibility. I would suggest that you immediately consult with an attorney to discuss your rights and obligations. If you want me to assist you, feel free to call me at 856-546-8010.
