Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Domestic Partner seperation

I have been living with my boyfriend for almost 4 years. We have a 2 yr old daughter. I quit my job in health insurance with which I supported myself quite well to come here to NJ and be with him for his job. Now he is being physically and emotionally abusive. Can I get any compensation if we are not married? How can I support us until I get back home and find a good job.

Re: Domestic Partner seperation

You are thinking of getting something known as palimony. Palimony is based on the idea that there was a contract, an agreement, between the parties that he would support you if you made certain sacrifices. The support based on this theory is not so automatic as that based on the marital relationshp. If you call me I will be glad to discuss your situation further.
