Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Emancipation
I am a 19 year-old student who wanted to attend Boston University, but my parents refuse to take up the financial burden. I was wondering how one would go about emancipating from one's parents. I believe I have a strong case, being that I don't even live with them and for some other personal reasons. I basicly support myself anyway and I just want to be considered "independent." How would I go about emancipating them? Do I need a lawyer, and do I have to go to court? Your advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Emancipation
Other than for purposes of drinking alcoholic beverages, you are already viewed as an adult. I'm not quite sure what else you are trying to accomplish. Quite frankly, it sounds like you are angry about the fact that your parents would not pay for your college education. There may also be some other issues involved as well. If you want to be viewed like an adult, act like one. Call your parents and resolve your issues with them. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
