Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Ending Child Support
1. My divorce judgment states that child support shall cease at 18 or 30 days after my child completes high school. I pay support on the 1st of the month and she completed high school on 20 June. When can I stop support? It also states, if the child attends college and not otherwise be emancipated, the parties shall confer with respect to a proper Order of support reflectiong the child's education expenses. Does this mean support must continue or another court case? Thank you

Without the exact language of the agreement I must rely on your summary. It seems that there shall be support if there is college attendance. Usually this means providing for tuition, room and board and no child support while in college.

Re: Ending Child Support
I would never go ahead on just stop paying child support without a court order terminating that support unless you can get the other side to agree, but even then, I would want that documented.
However, it sounds like you'll have to pay college expenses anyway, but this actually depends on several other factors. Some lawyers may tell you that you will have to pay college expenses no matter what, but there are some ways around it.
