when an engagement is over, who gets the ring? It was a graduation gift
for my nursing school graduation my boyfriend at the time took me away for the weekend and proposed. in the beginning of august he claimed he changed his mind and wants the ring back. i know it was a gift and he wants to take me to court for it. i would like to know my rights

An engagement ring is a gift conditioned upon marriage. Once the marriage occurs, the condition is met and the ring belongs to the woman. If the marriage does not occur, it belongs to the man. Upon divorce, it belongs to the woman since the condition (marriage) was met. There is existing case law on this point. Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There may be other factors that would change my opinion.
