Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
''Equitable Distribution of Property''
I'm about to file for a divorce and have a question on property division.
I've paid for the mortgage on our home since we first purchase the house 7 years ago. I also pay all bills for maintenance of the home including electric, gas, garbage, water, sewerage, etc. I've also paid for 90% of the furniture in the house, my daughter's private tuition until February of this year. All these bills are addressed to me with the exception of the mortgate.
I feel I'm entitled to 2/3 value of the property. What are my changes of getting 2/3 value of the property? What proof do I need to show that I've been the sole payer of all bills?

Re: ''Equitable Distribution of Property''
It may actually be worse than you think. Without knowing the facts and circumstances of your marital life, your question cannot accurately be answered. For instance, suppose you and your wife agreed that she should quit medical school to stay at home and have children and, in fact, she did that. And, while she stayed at home raising the kids, you went to work and developed your career and a multi-million dollar corporation. In that case, she would arguably be entitled to (at least) one-half of all of the assets (including the multi-million dollar corporation), but she also may be entitled to alimony. Now admittedly, I am creating a "worse case scenario" for you. My point is that a careful analysis needs to be made of your situation before any answers can be given. I would suggest that you immediately seek legal counsel, (either me or someone else) to discuss your matter in more detail. Only then will you be able to rely on advice you are given. I will be happy to assist you. However, you need to call me at 856-546-8010. Mention Law Guru and your first consultation is free. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
