Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

I need some family law guidance that I was hoping you could help me with. The subject is custody to non-parents, psychological parent as I think it is now called.

The situation involves my grandson who is 6. My daughter has been sick with cancer and lupus since my grandson was born in 2003. He has been taken care mostly by our family since my daughter is in and out of the hospital so much. My daughter and her husband have not had the best marriage and there are several instances of domestic violence, the latest in October/November 2008 while they were living in Maryland, where he as charged w/attempted murder.

Long story short, My daughter has been living here in NJ since that incident but I believe she refused to testify against him so that State didnt have a case and now she unbelievably wants to go back to him and take my grandson back into that environment. Her husband now lives in North Carolina and he wants them to come there. My fear obviously is that something terrible will happen to my daughter and grandson. I know I cant stop her from making this mistake since she is an adult, but I need to know what legal recourse I have, if any, to prevent her from taking my grandson.
