An adoption petition can be filed with the Court, with your statement of consent and service of papers upon the father. An adoption terminates the other parent's parental rights and responsibilities which are assumed by the adoptive parent.

I have read what the other attorney said. You should consider trying to get paid at least part of the child support which their father owes to you before you move for the adoption.

That money would help make your kids' lives a lot better. Talk to a lawyer about all of this, get some advice.

Good luck to you. Your husband is a good guy to take on these two kids!
